I've been slacking. I know. And for that, I apologize. But now, finally, I can update this thing every week because... get ready... I finally have internet!!!
Last time we talked, I was sitting in a bar/café while a huge group of men played darts. At the same time, I received a text message from Kaitlin telling me they just got their internet activated in their apartment. Earlier that morning I had tried McDonald's, which was once again having internet issues. Hearing the news from Kaitlin didn't make me feel any better, although that did mean I could use their net for a while instead of going to McDo. I left the café feeling like my internet day would never come. (Kaitlin & Co. even ordered theirs after I did!) Well, things were about to change. The next day was Friday, and I hadn't been to check on my box for two days (one because I was out of town, and the other because it was a holiday). I had high hopes, but I was ready to be disappointed as usual. To try to put off the bad news, I stopped at a bookstore and browsed a little, my favorite thing to do when I'm bored. I headed to the oh-so-dreaded laundry place (don't ask me why this is where I was to pick up my luxury item), and to my fabulous surprise, the woman in fact handed me a huge box with SANFORD written on the side. This was the day! My internet had arrived! Only five and a half weeks late, but it was here.
I anxiously walked back to my room, opened the box, and laid all the contents out on my bed. Where to start?! I began reading a instructions to set everything up, only to learn that the passwords I needed were to have been sent to me in the mail... a long time ago. I never got them, but luckily later that week I got a hold of someone online and had them mail me a new letter. Kaitlin and I were planning to do dinner that night (her roommates were gone for the weekend), so I set everything aside and decided to get to it over the weekend. At her place, I took advantage of the internet and enjoyed it thoroughly.
As expected, I couldn't set up my internet because I had to wait for my letter to arrive. After another date night with Kaitlin (out to dinner then for coffee afterwards), I spent Saturday night at her apartment again using her internet. But that would be the last time...
Finally, Wednesday morning I checked my mail, and my passwords were here. It was a miracle. After being here for two months with nothing to do at my apartment, I finally got online from the comfort of home. Seriously, it was sooooo exciting. With a small scare during about 20 minutes, I was officially online, and everything was done. Quel relief!
Kaitling told me about this episode of South Park. Perhaps if you're a fan you've seen it. I, however, had not, but I looked it up online and found a good chunk of it. Watch it, because it's seriously what we all were like in Lure before a few weeks ago. Click here to watch it.
Work... Oh, what to say about work? My only class yesterday was cancelled. It's beginning to feel like college, seeing how long I can go without going to class. Last week and today, though, I finally began actually doing stuff! It's been fun. I've been talking a lot about the USA and Thanksgiving and the like. It's really helping me brush up on my US history, which never flew too well with me in junior high and high school. I started having flashbacks to sleeping through the movies in my 10th grade US History class (I specifically remember the teacher teaching twice all trimester) when it came time to talk about Malcolm X. Honestly. I remember a worksheet from that class that specifically asked, "Who was Malcolm X?" And I specifically remember being so annoyed that I couldn't answer it because I couldn't follow the damn movie. So this time around, I was seeing an image of this blank worksheet from 10th grade in my head... And then I realized I was up there expected to explain to these French kids who Malcolm X is. (Okay, so we were already on the MLK topic, so I at least knew the right era and genre here.) Thankfully the teacher interrupted before I could even look like I didn't know what I was talking about.
I'm waiting to get paid again, and once I do, I'm getting out of here. I need to go someplace, or I will feel like I accomplish nothing in the next month. It gets pretty darn boring around here. But I'm happy and cozy in my room now, with the outside world at my fingertips.
I'm going to go reprioritize; I just ate a whole lot of nutella.
